2026 Zakat Donation Progress
Fulfill Your Zakat. Invest in Our Communities. Shape a Just Future.
During Ramadan, Muslims around the world are called to reflect, give generously, and care for those most in need. As part of this sacred month, MyLLife invites you to fulfill your Zakat by supporting programs that expand opportunity, advance justice, and uplift Muslim, immigrant, and minority communities.
Our 2026 Zakat Donations Campaign aims to raise $100,000 to directly sustain and grow MyLLife’s education, research, and leadership initiatives in the year ahead.
What Is Zakat — and Why Is It Important?
Zakat is a required form of charitable giving in Islam—an obligation to redistribute wealth in order to support those facing financial hardship and to strengthen the wellbeing of the broader community. It is both an act of worship and a commitment to social responsibility. By giving your Zakat through MyLLife, you are directing this obligation toward long-term, justice-centered impact—investing in people, knowledge, and systems that serve the public good.
Please see here for our founder Rashed Hasan's article on the difference between simple charity (Sadaqat) and obligatory giving/sharing (Zakat).
Our 2026 Goal: $100,000
Your Zakat donations will directly support and expand MyLLife’s two core initiatives, which create pathways into public service, research, and social impact for the next generation of leaders.
MyLLife Scholars Program
Since 2022, our flagship MyLLife Scholars Program has supported college students from Muslim and immigrant/minority backgrounds as they pursue careers in public service through full-time summer internships at government agencies and nonprofit organizations. These scholarships help remove financial barriers so students can focus on meaningful, service-oriented work in fields where our communities are historically underrepresented—government, law, policy, and nonprofit leadership. 2025 Scholar profiles can be found here.
- Scholarships range from $1,500–$5,000 per student
- The more Zakat we receive, the more Scholars we can support in 2026
- Each scholarship represents access, mentorship, and a pathway to long-term civic impact
Your Zakat helps build a pipeline of young leaders committed to serving with integrity, compassion, and justice.
Economic & Social Justice Program (ESJP)
Launched in 2023, our Economic & Social Justice Program engages undergraduate and graduate students in real-world research on issues that shape economic equity, corporate accountability, worker wellbeing, and community health. Some of the articles written by our research interns can be accessed here. ESJP Research Interns:
- Come from fields such as business, law, economics, public policy, and social science
- Commit approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year
- Work collaboratively with peers, community fellows, and MyLLife staff
Each Research Intern receives a $10,000 annual stipend, allowing them to pursue justice-centered research while balancing academic responsibilities. Your Zakat donation helps expand this research team and ensures that critical, values-driven insights reach policymakers, institutions, and the public.
Why Give Your Zakat to MyLLife?
By contributing your Zakat to MyLLife, you are:
- Supporting education and workforce access
- Investing in ethical research and public accountability
- Strengthening Muslim and marginalized communities
- Transforming charitable obligation into sustainable impact
Your Zakat is not just charity—it is community-building.
Ways to Give
You can fulfill your Zakat by:
- Donating online via credit card or bank transfer
- Giving through a Donor Advised Fund (e.g., Fidelity, Charles Schwab, Goldman Sachs)
We encourage you to give generously during Ramadan and to share this campaign with others in your network who are seeking meaningful ways to direct their Zakat.
Zakatul Fitr
A donation of $20 per person in your household, due before Eid day. This gift helps support our mission and the work we do to uplift communities during Eid.
Zabiha Donation
Instead of sacrificing an animal yourself, you can donate the equivalent amount to MyLLife. We will ensure your contribution directly supports our mission. Please give this donation before or within three days after Eid.
Kaffara for Missed Fasts
If you were unable to fast for any days during Ramadan, the recommended donation is $20 per missed day to provide meals and support our mission. For example, if 30 days were missed, the suggested donation is 30 x $20 = $600.
Annual Zakat
Fulfill your obligatory annual Zakat by donating 2.5% of your wealth (excluding your primary residence) to MyLLife, directing your assets toward lasting impact in support of our mission.
Give your Zakat today and help us reach our $100,000 goal for 2026.
Together, we can nurture leaders, advance justice, and serve our communities with purpose.
We invite you to also stay connected through MyLLife Digest, our monthly newsletter, where we share updates, reflections, and opportunities to engage more deeply with our work. Our newsletter is shaped by our community. We welcome contributions from students, scholars, and community members who want to share their insights and work.
