MyLLife is welcoming our 2024 MyLLife Scholars this summer. These are exceptional college students who are driven to pursue public policy related careers. They seek out policy related internships in DC with the Federal government and with state governments as well as other global institutions and non-profits. Many of these internships are unpaid or under-paid and that is where MyLLife steps in. We believe that nobody should be denied an opportunity to pursue career aspirations for lack of funds. Unpaid and under-paid internships are themselves discriminatory as they disproportionately affect students from poor, minority and immigrant families.
This year we have selected students from Harvard Law School, UCLA, William and Mary, Seton Hill Law School and GMU. These are students working towards earning doctoral, law, graduate and undergraduate degrees in various fields. Their summer internships range from working at UN, Federal and State Courts, Congressional offices, International Rescue Committee (IRC), National association of Attorney General (NAAG) and US Navy. These internships afford them an opportunity to see real time how public policies are advocated, legislation and carried out in real time and their impact on people’s lives, civil society as well as safety, education, health and livelihood of average human beings.
These students are selected based on their unique life stories, passion for public service and a strong desire to make a difference in the society they live in. These are purpose driven individuals who also questions how our social and economic norms find their ways in public policies and their larger impact and sometime unintended consequences affecting large number of people in our countries and across the world.
We will profile these students over the course of several issues of this newsletter. You can also find a quick snapshot of their profile in our website under 2024 MyLLife Scholars. As a reader we encourage you to participate in this effort and help fund these types of programs. This year our scholarship ranged from $1500 to $4000 per student. You can support students for our upcoming 2025 Summer Internship by donating on our website. You can also spread the word to interested college students among your family, friends and places of work. Our application for next year will be available here starting November 2024.
