How to Create Change In Trying Times

The world is full of people looking to make a difference and do good deeds. However, there’s no denying that this past year has been a trying time for us all. After a year of unpredictable and unprecedented events, it has left many feeling that the bad may be outweighing the good. Sometimes, it’s hard to continue carrying on in your fight to make the world a better place when there is so much heartache going on around you. However, know that you’re not alone and there is hope.

The most important thing to remember is that there’s so much good out there, and sometimes you just have to look for it. We’re all in this together! Check out ways you can continue to drive forward change in the world, even when you may be navigating trying times.

Continue to Grow

Now is a good time to learn more about the causes you support and how you can continue to help drive change. Since we’re all stuck at home, this is the perfect time to read books or articles about a cause close to your heart. If you aren’t able to get out into the world right now like so many others, come up with a plan to help give back once the pandemic is over. Put a pen to paper and think about the good times that are sure to come. Never lose hope.

Start A Dialogue

Sometimes it helps to simply talk out loud about important issues or things on your mind. Start a dialogue with your family and friends about topics important to you, even if they may not yet understand your cause. There could be an organization in your community that family and friends know nothing about. By talking about the missions that are important to you, you may just ignite a passion for the same cause in somebody else. Plus, who doesn’t love taking on the world with those you love?!

Advocate for Change

Knowledge is power. Work to educate your peers and bring awareness to the causes you support. If applicable, contact your local officials to help advocate for change. This could be at a local, state-wide or national level. The more people who understand the issues you’re helping to advocate for, the better chance they have at succeeding. Remember that huge initiatives start with one voice.

Donate to Meaningful Organizations

While we may not be able to do all of the things we’re used to right now, there are other ways to help. If you’re able, find organizations that support the very causes you’re passionate about and make a pledge to donate. It’s important to make sure you understand how your donation will be used before making the decision to give so that you can ensure your funds are being used properly. If you aren’t able to give monetarily, consider donating your time by volunteering. Many organizations have found ways for supporters to volunteer virtually.

While it is difficult to keep going when times are hard, we’re all in this together. Remember that any action you can take to keep moving forward is considered progress. You have the power to continue  to do good in the world and be the positive change, even with everything going on around us.
