All of us at MyLLife are pleased to introduce a member of our MyLLife Scholars 2024 Cohort, Maya Chamra!
Hello, my name is Maya Chamra and I am a rising 2L at New York University School of Law. Before I started law school, I majored in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at University of Michigan. Then I worked as a legal assistant for two years at the United Community Housing Coalition, working to prevent eviction of low-income tenants in Detroit. I’m excited to intern this summer at the New York Legal Assistance Group Domestic Violence Law Unit, which is focused on representing survivors of sexual violence navigating family and matrimonial legal matters.
I am grateful to receive the MyLLife scholarship and meet other students in the cohort who are passionate about public service. As a daughter of immigrants and first-generation Arab American, I was raised to serve my community such that we can all achieve collective justice. The MyLLife scholarship enables me to participate in a public interest law internship and use my legal education to help marginalized groups assert their rights within the justice system. I appreciate that MyLLife prioritizes uplifting marginalized students to promote diverse perspectives in public service. I look forward to contributing to this mission through my internship.
